Carbon credits

One credit. One batch. One methodology version.

A carbon credit is only as good as the maths behind it. We implement the methodology your auditor already trusts, snapshot every parameter at the moment of issuance, and keep that snapshot attached to the credit for as long as it exists.

Anatomy of a credit

Every credit is a fingerprint of the batch that produced it.

No estimates. No averages. The number on the certificate is a direct function of mass, carbon content, persistence factor, and methodology version — all recorded against this specific batch.

Carbon content
From lab analysis

% C of the actual biochar, from a certified lab — not an industry default.

Methodology version
Snapshotted at issuance

v2.3, v2.4, vN — the credit ages with the factor it was issued under.

Batch reference
Permanent link

Every credit traces back to a single batch, biomass source, and producer.

Audit chain
Append-only

Producer, reviewer, approver, and timestamps — recorded, never rewritten.

The maths

How a tonne of biochar becomes a tCO₂e credit.

The formula is intentionally boring: mass produced × carbon fraction × molecular ratio × persistence × (1 − leakage). We don't invent it. We just keep it honest, version it, and attach the inputs to every credit we issue.

Worked example · Batch BC-2026-091v2.3
Mass produced4,820 kg
× Carbon fraction0.784
× CO₂ / C molecular ratio3.667
× Persistence (≥100 yr)0.97
× (1 − leakage 0.05)0.95
Credit issued3.41tCO₂e

Illustrative — figures vary per batch and methodology version.

Credit lifecycle

From issuance to retirement, on a single ledger.

State transitions are gated by role and recorded as events — every change has an author, a timestamp, and a reason.

State
Draft

Batch is in review. Calculated tCO₂e is provisional and tied to the active methodology version.

State
Issued

Batch is approved. The credit is stamped with the methodology version, immutable from this point.

State
Retired

The credit has been claimed against a buyer's footprint. It can never be sold or transferred again.

On the certificate

What your buyer actually receives.

A buyer-ready PDF, plus a permanent verification link. The PDF embeds the methodology snapshot; the link resolves to the live audit trail in case anyone needs to dig deeper.

  • Unique credit ID and buyer reference
  • Batch reference, producer name, production date
  • Methodology name + version (snapshotted)
  • Inputs used in the calculation (mass, % C, persistence)
  • Issued amount in tCO₂e and current state (issued / retired)
  • Verification URL with read-only audit trail

Selling on trust is over. Sell on proof.

Every credit issued from our platform ships with the maths, the inputs, and the audit chain — built-in.
